Risk Management

1 min read

Managing field operations involves hazard identification, thorough worker safety training, and physical oversight to minimize risks and limit worker exposure to injury.

In the drilling industry damage from falling objects, pinches and crushing, electrocution, and gas pockets are risks that must be accounted for and eliminated or at the very least nullified by safety procedure and proper PPE.

On-site drilling industry-related injuries result most often from complacency. Workers neglect to follow safety practices when the danger feels controlled or is unknown to them.

The initial step in risk management is understanding your workers and keeping them informed of safety standards so this does not happen.

Allocate time to engage with your staff, discuss any factors impacting their work, and share solutions and alternatives if they have any issues.

It can be difficult to know what an employee needs if they do not reach out to you. Discussing safety expectations before workers are in the field is a worthwhile investment.

When employees lack proper training or supervision, they may unintentionally compromise their safety to fulfill tasks beyond their expertise.

This does not mean that alternative solutions cannot be suggested or attempted. Revisiting the assessment of your staff for potential risks must be a daily exercise.

“I maintain continuous communication with on-site personnel to address workplace hazards effectively. Site evaluations demand years of experience to make informed judgments and maintain a safe working environment.”
